With the holidays approaching, I’m sure many of you have religion on the brain. And if you are single you might be on the hunt for someone who shares your religious views.
Interestingly, a recent Washington Post article noted that on OkCupid including the word “atheist” in a first message to another user was more likely to garner a reply than any other religious descriptor except Christian. Is this because we find atheists intriguing or because of daters secretly identifying as such even if their profile lists them as Christian, Jewish, or Prefer not to answer?
Similar belief systems has widely been reported as a bigger predictor of relationship success than similar interests. So this holiday season, will you and your date be saying grace together over the Thankgiving table? Or walking to Midnight Mass hand in hand? How about just an existentialist conversation about the role of religion in modern society? Either way, picking out the most unusual part of your profile to highlight in a first message seems like a smart way to get a response.
